Spazmatics are outrageous, dude.
Everyone loves an 80’s cover band. Duh. But the Spazmatics are undeniably tubular – and I’m not just saying that because I’m an arrogant Texan. The helmet-wearing bassist, neck brace-strutting singer, sweatband-bound guitarist, and geeky drummer culminate 80’s songs, costumes and personalities to make their show one-of-a-kind. They started off as just one band but due to high demand, created multiple forms of this 80’s band so they can share the love across the Lone Star State.
Raging at frat parties to weddings, if you watch a show and don’t leave sweaty and smiling there is something wrong with you.
Last night the band started with Footloose and had the crowd doing the ever-so-classic Kevin Bacon jumps, then we dropped an octave and creepily belted “Spin me right round baby right round.” People of all ages are always welcome to this show but I would have to say their number one fans are: The cougars! They were sloshing their vodka tonics, jumping on tables, diva-ing it out with hot pink blow up mics, and showing off their sunglasses during “I wear my sunglasses at night”. What a sight. Seeing these clowns was a nice break from the emo, innovative, ground breaking electro-pop scene. I missed an Electric Feel show to see these clowns bounce around, but last night I was in the mood for some good ol’ fashion 80’s fun - and I got it!
