Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons – Beggin (Pilooski Re-Edit) / Madcon – Beggin

BANDS

The original version by Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons is the shit already! Check out the funky and rare Pilooski Re-Edit but the Madcon duo manage to do a stellar job revitalizing it and giving it an entire new life.

I was first put on to this instant jukebox classic by a good friend of mine at a pub full of spicy stewardesses out in Kew Gardens, Queens. It was a tad passed mid February back in 09’ and I remember it so well because aside from being bitterly cold out, I was also mildly depressed from a split with my longtime fiance and friend. Being just some days just passed Valentine’s, I recall being in dire need of a drink and a quick escape. Anyhow, the song comes on and instantly the theatrical Godfather type theme music catch my ear, the lyrics smash home base, and the heavy bottom attack me, take a hold of me and by the time it was done with me I was a complete fan of this record.

The intro, for me, sounds like a blend of something I would imagine hearing on a 1920’s Charlie Chaplin film quickly fusing into something i would expect to see in a James Bond 1970’s movie trailer. From the bottom heavy bass, down to the piano and quite simply every instrument in the composition, take me back instantly to a time and color I have only experienced in movies yet is completely in front of me now. This record does that for me every time and I enjoy the experience of it every single time. In addition to the cool vibe and great sounds, the delivery by Madcon duo’s Tshawe Baqwa, also known as Kapricon, at the very start of the record do a great job of reminding you ,that you have absolutely heard this song before in some form, and that somehow, you definitely love it. The song is fun, has great tempo and energy, and sounds like all of the best of every genre that has transpired from the 60’s & the Four Seasons.

As for Madcon, I’m not sure about the rest of the Norwegian Europop/Hip Hop groups material, but after this review, I am definitely going to dive in and check out at least two or three more of their most well reviewed records, to see if there’s anything else party worthy for the playlists… Or, any other playlists out there for that matter.
