This 80’s sounding Arcade Fire track is by far my favorite from Neon Bible. I’ve never been able to fully understand what it’s about, some people say it has religious connotations and I agree but I also think there’s a little more to it. I gather this song is about having total control over your actions, decisions and choices – free will.

Those lyrics definitely have religious connotations. We don’t realize it but so much of the way we think is based on ideals and concepts that have absolutely nothing to do with the true nature of things. Basically, we can have certain fears and worries that are completely man made and don’t really exist, for a lot of people they come from something external like religion. There are so many internal phycological shackles that can hold people back, and the crazy thing is that they can be masked in the form of good ideals and be self-defeating and hurtful without you even knowing. To me Keep The Car Running is about having an empty mind and involving yourself in this world without fear. Contrary to popular belief, no one can make you think anything, you’re thoughts are totally in your control if you are aware of them. This is a very inspiring song on a very important topic. Not to mention it sounds great and feels good, enjoy.

One of the few bands that caught my eye last CMJ was the Portland duo Baby Monster. Their songs were incredibly catchy, the melodies and arrangement were simple yet dynamic, and the lyrics are feel good inc so I made a skull note to stay on the lookout for anything fresh. Well last month a new label kicked off with the launch of a new Baby Monster song called She Comes Alive and I something fresh has arrived. I’m not sure but I think this song is an ode to one of natures greatest gifts, beautiful naked girls.

Walking around with nothing on she comes alive…”

There should be more tasteful songs about naked girls. I feel like back in old school people wrote songs about it all the time but now it’s like Sebastien Tellier taking care of all the romantic sexuality for male musicians, what’s going on here? It’s time to start a movement. Anyways, this is a pretty cool records and I’m looking forward to what these guys have in store, enjoy.

G.O.V. has a controversial taboo-shattering song called Seventeen in which he talks about a riskay relationship he had with a young lolita and the awkwardness it caused in his life. He recently performed that song at a showcase all I could do is laugh to myself when I saw the shock in peoples faces when he sung the chorus…

I thought that was controversial until I found out that Serge Gainsbourg did an entire concept album in 1971 called Histoire de Melody Nelson about an affair he had with a lolita-esque female, I love it I mean that’s messed up man! Sex sells because it’s a beautiful thing and quite simply we’re all horny bastards. However, it’s rare to have sexually themed music that also offers high levels of sophistication and artistic quality. Histoire de Melody Nelson is that rare find, I highly recommend it. That brings me to the modern incarnation of Serge, Sebastien Tellier and his bachelor pad classic Sexuality. His record label recently released a video for Look which is pretty much a close up of a girls tooshie for approximately 4 minutes, nothing wrong with that. I like this guy Tellier, I like the way he thinks…

One of the fathers of the dark cinematic electro movement is back with a new single and an all-star cast to back it up. Mixed by SebastiaN, produced by Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and featuring CSS’s Lovefoxx, the start-studded collaboration isn’t your typical high energy motion picture Kavinsky but it’s nice to have the Frenchie back in town. Unfortunately, I’m already late for a meeting with my lawyer so I can’t get into this as much as I’d like to but here are two great remixes of the track that were recently released, enjoy.

The new division of EMPT is almost ready for an official launch and it’s been consuming my life so I apologize to all for missing some post the last couple of days. I can’t get into any details at the moment due to non disclosure agreements but it has to do with music and bringing the Et Musique Pour Tous taste outside of the computer, it’s very exciting, we’ll keep you posted.

In these projects I’ve been revisiting a lot of great music and one of the songs that came back into my life was Breakin’ the Chains of Love by Ftiz and the The Tantrums. The song is inspired by old school Motown records and AM ‘67 radio, fresh. As the story goes, Fitz’s ex-girlfriend had a neighbor who was getting rid of a old church organ so she put aside their differences and looked out for her old boy and got him to buy it. The gesture inspired Fitz so much that he sat down that night and wrote Breakin’ the Chains of Love and eventually his entire EP Songs For A Breakup Vol. 1, that’s love. The EP is very well produced and features well written songs are full of bittersweet I hate you but I love you lyrics. I’ve been really hip to these Northern soul inspired records lately, can’t get enough. Winds Of Change is def my favorite from the EP, the hook really sounds like something I’ve heard before but I can’t put a finger on it. If anyone knows what is it leave it the comments, enjoy.

I was working on mix and I came across this oldie but goodie which reminded me just how good Peter Bjorn and John’s third LP is. Writer’s Block was released in 2006 but sound like it could be coming out next year. The sound is timeless, the songs are real and the production is first-class. Lyrically, the album explores the many aspects of dating and relationships and Let’s Call It Off is no exception.

The song is about a love interest that initially looked promising but turned out to be a total bust and instead of forcing the issue they decide to call it quits. So in a sense it’s like they’re breaking up after like a one-night stand or something, I like it. Not wasting mine or anyone eles’s time is one of my top priorities so I have a special affection for this type of thinking…

While Jay was talking about drug dealing when he said that, I’ve taken that line and made my own by applying it to pretty much everything. Be fully in the moment and give things their due diligence but if it isn’t right don’t hesitate to be Swayze. The fastest way to get what you want is to keep it moving, enjoy.

While Rhymefest was working on The Manual Mixtape with my dude Scram Jones last year, I got to spend some time around him and get to know him a little bit. Good guy, deep thinker, talented lyricist. His co-writing role for “Jesus Walks” earned him a Grammy in 2004, and may have contributed to him getting Kanye on his debut album Blue Collar. Their collaboration “Brand New” featured Yeezy on the first verse, and on the beat as well.

The samples for this track were taken off the album Dap-Dippin’ With… by Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings. ”Pick It Up, Lay It In The Cut” gave Kanye the music to form the main loop for the beat – which includes chops of the intro guitar riff, combined with the horns at 0:09. I was not surprised to discover that the “Brand New” vocal snippet, which is basically the centerpiece for the whole record, was also taken from the same album. At the 0:25 mark of “The Dap Dip”, Sharon Jones exclaims “That ain’t no epidemic, that’s a Brand New dance!” Kanye took a total of about 10 seconds of audio from a classic piece of vinyl, and turned it into a memorable record.

Here I am on iTunes spending all my money on music as usual when, lo and behold, I find a new Chromeo remix of Tiga’s What You Need, fresh. Last Gang Records released a deluxe version Ciao! on iTunes yesterday featuring this remix and two others by A-Track and Steve Aoki, the Chromeo version is definitely my favorite. The track is heavy on the bass and has the usual satisfaction guaranteed flare of any Chromeo dance joint.

I don’t really mind could sit here while you tell me about your diet.
